The Capitol Hill Food Tour
Located within earshot of the US Capitol and the Mall, Capitol Hill is one of the earliest, historically diverse, and most beautiful areas in Washington DC.
The area boasts a variety of locally owned shops, boutiques, and restaurants, catering to the variety of residents living within the area.
The restaurants are family run and are a combination of both long standing and newly established within the area. They are reminiscent of the working class history of Capitol Hill and Barracks row. We will see through the cuisine how the neighborhood has evolved over the years, and gain a better understanding how an area once planned to be the financial center of the district, became the city’s largest manufacturing sector.
We will take you on a three hour guided journey through the thriving southeast neighborhood to sample a wide variety of food and drink, from the Navy Yard to Barracks Row, and everything in between.
Your Food Tour may include the following specialties:
- 18th Century inspired Anglo-Indian Cuisine
- Regional American gourmet comfort food
- Traditional Salvadorian dishes and beverages
- Greek mezze sampler
- Traditional naan making demonstration
- Hand made dessert from acclaimed Italian restaurant
Let us take you to the neighborhood John Philip Sousa and J. Edgar Hoover called home. Come see where Roberta Flack started her career. Enjoy a variety of food that follows the culinary history of this diverse Washington DC neighborhood.
Enough food is served that most participants will not need dinner after the tour. All dishes are served sitting down, so you can enjoy the ambiance of each restaurant while trying their specialties, and hearing their stories.
All dishes served are included in the tour. Seating and special service is provided at all restaurants throughout the tour.
We recommend you eating a light brunch before the tour rather than lunch. The dishes you will try resemble small meals rather than traditional tastings. We want you to be able to experience the best each restaurant has to offer.

“The combination of history, architecture, neighborhood culture and tastings was fantastic and an experience we would highly recommend to others. Natalie was an informative,
engaging and accommodating guide who truly brought it all together for a great time.”

“Great Tour! History with food, architecture with food, comedy with food and a great tour guide and even more food made this a first class experience.
Our knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide made great sense of the maze of Capitol Hill. Her knowledge of the history of the area and of great local
eateries made this the best city food tour I have been on. I recommend this to anyone that wants to have a fun afternoon in the Washington area.
I couldn't believe that three hours could go by so quickly. Not to be missed! P.S. Eat lightly before you go. The food was unique, and the portions were satisfying.”

“My sister and I have taken four other food tours from [other companies] in NYC. This tour was the best in comfort for participants: plenty of room to sit and enjoy, wide and excellent choices of food and great presentation! Our guide was knowledgeable of the area and very personable. Our group was diverse and fun. I would always encourage others to enjoy these tours!”

“The range of cuisine was excellent and enabled us to try a variety of restaurants that we wouldn't have otherwise visited. The architecture of the neighborhood and the stories behind it all was fascinating and [our tour guide] did a wonderful job in delivering the information in small enough bites for us to absorb and remember. Visiting the small, locally owned restaurants and trying multiple small meals was wonderful and very, very filling. We would recommend this tour to those who like to learn by hearing rather than reading it all in a guide book and a unique way to try the locally owned restaurants. It was a very easy walk and seemed quite well paced.”

“We were all locals on the tour- and we learned a lot about a neighborhood we all thought we knew. Our tour guide was fabulous! Highly recommended.”
